The Return ( Titan,#1) by Jennifer L Armentrout

The Return
Titan #1
By Jennifer L Armentrout

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.
But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Book 1 in the new adult paranormal TITAN series, spin-off to the best selling COVENANT series

My Review:

5/5

Woohoo more Seth! Okay if you read the Covenant series you’ll know why and understand my excitement for this book.

Seth has made wrong choices in his past and those choices got him in the situation where his life and afterlife is now in the hands of the God’s and he has to do their biddings.

Still sulking and thinking he does not deserve forgiveness for the wrongs he had committed Seth gets sent on protection duty by Apollo. The girl Seth is sent to protect is something otherworldly herself and has probably one of the coolest best friends who happens to not like Seth so much. Josie also shows Seth that sometimes the hardest thing for someone to do is forgive themselves no matter how much they need it to move on.

This book of course was excellent. Seth is back with other characters as well from the Covenant series and new characters are introduces. There is action, romance, mystery and humor. The author knows how to break your heart and make you laugh.

If you liked the Covenant series or just like books that have to deal with the gods and Titans. A fantastical action filled humorous New Adult book with adventure, romance and mystery. I’m super excited for the next in this series.

Cover Reveal for Blood Stitches by Erin Fanning

Check out the fantastic cover art for Erin Fanning's upcoming paranormal release. Continue below for an excerpt and the chance to win a gift card.

Release date: May 12th 2015
Publisher: Lyrical Press
Pre-order: Amazon

Synopsis via Goodreads:

It’s called El Toque de la Luna—The Touch of the Moon. At least that’s how nineteen-year-old Gabby’s older sister, Esperanza, refers to the magical powers she inherited from their Mayan ancestors. Esperanza says women with El Toque weave magic into their knitting, creating tapestries capable of saving—or devastating—the world. Gabby thinks Esperanza is more like touched in the head—until a man dressed like a candy corn arrives at their Seattle home on Halloween. But "Mr. C" is far from sweet…

Soon, Gabby and her almost-more-than-friend, Frank, find themselves spirited away to a demon ball, complete with shape shifters—and on a mission to destroy Esperanza’s tapestries before they cause an apocalyptic disaster…And before it’s too late to confess their true feelings for each other.

EXCERPT

A gust of wind scattered leaves across the University of Seattle campus. My hair tangled over my face. New contacts tortured my eyes, and books weighed down my backpack. It didn’t matter. A tornado could have snatched me up. As long as it carried me home and put an end to the anniversary of the worst day of my life.

“Watch out, Gabby.” My best friend Frank thrust his hands deep into the pockets of his pinstriped suit. “We’re being followed by a giant candy corn.”

“Giant candy corn? Yeah, right.” If I turned around, Frank would laugh and say, “Gotcha”, or some other dorky thing. The mind-numbing boredom of Calculus I, our last class of the day, always set Frank off, making him zanier than usual.

“I mean it. We’ve got a candy corn on our tail.” Frank whistled a Lester Ruben song as he sauntered ahead.

“Okay, okay. Let me see this Halloween wonder.” If I didn’t give in, Frank would never leave me alone. I whirled, ready to hear Frank’s laugh, and almost ran into a man. His face glowed orange, like someone who’d spent too much time in a tanning booth, and he wore a white cap pulled down to his ears. A yellow scarf hid his neck and chin. For once, Frank wasn’t kidding. The man resembled a giant candy corn.

Shredded paper and a postage stamp poked out of his scarf, and a moon decorated an edge of the knitting, like one of my older sister Esperanza’s creations. It didn’t seem possible, but no one else I knew added garbage and a signature moon to their knitting. A wool coat covered the rest of him, except his face and steel-tipped boots.

“Sorry.” I jumped back.

Frank’s chuckles mixed with squirrels chattering in a nearby tree. Drizzle moistened my forehead, and a cold dampness seeped into my bones. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion, like watching Esperanza unravel her knitting one stitch at a time to fix a mistake.

THE RETURN Excerpt:

“Is it so hard to say her name?” Apollo asked. “I think a few minutes ago was the first time you’ve said her name since after you two fought Ares.” My jaw ached from how hard I was grinding my molars. “Whatever,” Apollo said, his attention returning to the godsforsaken ceiling fan chain. “Don’t talk about it. Be the best issues-boy you can be.” I took a deep breath. It didn’t help. “I don’t have issues.” He tipped his head back and roared with laughter. Paintings of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains rattled. “You have more baggage than United Airlines. Cross that out. You have more issues than Medusa, and that woman makes the inside of a cat lady’s thoughts seem like a calming place.” “I hate you.”
 “You wound me straight to the heart, bud.”
 My patience was just about the same as that of Cerberus after someone tried to take a squeaky toy away from him. “What about the girl, Apollo?” He dropped down into the leather chair, his large form nearly swallowing it. “It’s a long story.” “Go figure.” That comment went largely ignored. “It all started with your birth, so there’s something else you can add to your mountain of suck.” I wondered if there was an anti-god repellent and where I could find it. “We knew the moment you were born that there would be the possibility of a God Killer, since Alexandria was on schedule to make an appearance a few years later. We didn’t know who among us was responsible for your birth, but we knew they’d want to use you for their own gain.” “This walk down history lane is boring me.” I crossed my arms. Unaffected, he eased himself closer to the bed, kicked his booted feet up on it, and stretched out leather-clad legs. “The risk of you two joining forced us to come up with a contingency plan in case the proverbial poo hit the fan.” My brows knitted. There was something wrong with hearing Apollo use the word “poo” in a sentence.

Arks of Octava ( The Scribbler Guardian)

Arks of Octava
The Scribbler Guardian
by bestselling author

Lucian Bane

Octava Cover
Fantasy Romance Series, The Trilogy Begins
Synopsis

Jeramiah Poe isn’t just any character in the Realm of Fiction; he is Muse Master—Destiny Diviner—Mysterious Miskriat. Being of neither the Traditional Genre Provinces nor Independent, Poe enjoys an eternal lease on life, so long as his Scribbler keeps him out of publication.

Poe meets Kane, a seven-year-old boy from the Independent Horror Province, where he learns ancient codes are being broken and the horror that should be an act, is real.

But the evil clutching Octava is not new and Seven Arks have been sent to Earth to stop it.

Only something has gone wrong and Poe is commissioned as the 8th Ark of Octava to discover what has become of the Seven.

But his passage to Earth comes with revelations he's not prepared for. Not only does his Scribbler not know of his existence, he's a she that his human form seems allergic to.

Poe soon realizes that with each Ark he locates, his powers grow along with his feelings for the Scribbler. And the enemy will try and use both to gain control of the two realms.

Excerpt
“Mr. Poe?” Poe turned abruptly at the worried sound of Kane’s voice, and panicked at seeing his body had gone translucent. “I have to go now, Mr. Poe.”

“What’s wrong?” Poe reached for him and his hands passed through the boy. “Kane! Are you dying in your story?”

“I have to get back Mr. Poe. They’re coming now.”

“Why are you crying? You’ll come back first chance. I’ll be here. Do you know the name of your story, Kane?”

“I’m scared, Mr. Poe.”

The real fear in the boy’s voice alarmed him and before he could ask anything else, he was gone. A flash of panic sent Poe shooting into the air and out of the bog, aiming for Octava’s Athenaeum. He landed too quickly and went sprawling for several feet before bounding up and running up the hundred flight stairs of the realm’s library. Poe flashed his credentials as he walked in and the head Athenaeum Officer nodded. He didn’t have time to fiddle with the intricate Library’s search program and found instead the Librarian. “I need help locating a story, it’s direly important.”

The woman turned ever so slowly, her curt expression matching her pristine white dress-suit—the Athenaeum’s dress code. “Genre?”

“Horror,” he shot out.

She raised a brow for more information and Poe shook his head. “I don’t know, search them all.”
Her painful pace indicated the necessity of speed one never needed in Octava. “Do you happen to have a title?”

“No.”

She shook her head with raised brows at the screen. “There are thousands here. We could be here all day and evening.” But her tone indicated that was quite fine, she had nothing better to do.

“Kane!” Poe forgot he could search by name in the cast.

“There’s a character named Kane in it.”

“Last name?”

“Not sure, I don’t think so, I think it’s his first.”

“I mean do you have a last name.”

“No, I don’t.” Poe wanted to strangle himself for not getting something so simple all this time.

“Traditional or non?”

“I don’t know,” Poe gasped.

The woman eyed Poe with confused concern before fluttering her fingers over the glass surface of the screen. “I find four possible matches.”

“The boy is seven. Look for a seven-year-old.”

“Ah. Sons of Insurrection. Has to be that one. It’s Independent and an SG. Paranormal Horror.”

“Coordinates,” Poe begged, trying not to yell.

He ran out the second she gave the information and took to the air upon exiting the building, barely missing several security officials in winged flight. Within five minutes, he landed at the story set. A dingy, rundown hospital with a dilapidation befitting the best of any horror story. The energy in the air sent a sensation through Poe that drew tiny bumps to the surface of his skin and a tingling along his spine.
Octava’s laws forbid anybody to barge right into a Story and so Poe had to carefully study the set around him. Spotting a lower window at the very bottom of the building, he hurried to it, remembering Kane’s comment about his playhouse under the stairs. Lowering to the ground he peered through the darkness. Nothing. Poe listened, closing his eyes, fighting to connect with the energy inside the insidious place.

Lucian's Bio

Welcome to my world
My name is Lucian Bane and I’ve heard from many that I’m the odd one out. But really, I’m just a Husband, an Author, and a Christian Dom. Ah, maybe that’s the one that makes everybody pause. Oxymoron? Not at all.

As an author, I like to write stories—paranormal erotica—contemporary erotica and fantasy romance about men who honor, cherish, and protect the women they love. But more importantly, I also attempt to make these stories a reality for couples everywhere by teaching them in the form of fiction how to add heat and passion to marriages and relationships that might not have it. Teach them how to build life-long commitments that form strong families, like I have with my own beautiful wife.

I think there are many men like myself, and I hope my writing will be a map for them. A map for women as well, to teach them how to bring out the Dom that exists within the men they call boyfriend or husband.

As young men, our inner Doms need a master to train them. I once bowed to my inner Dom's reckless and tireless desires, but when I gave myself to God and conformed my will to His, the transformation made me into what I am today. What many would call an Ineffable Dom. But its equal term in the Vanilla world, in my opinion, is simply a real man.

My Review

5/5Stars

When the author started posting previews and teasers for this book I knew I had to read it.

When I started reading this book all I could think was “ This is terrific!”. I like the idea of book characters living lives in a different world and one away from their book but not necessarily their genre. And that there are laws in place to keep the character from actually getting hurt. They are actors acting our their stories. Its a comforting thought when you have read some books that have horrible circumstances.

So, the story pulled me in with the intriguing Mr. Poe. Than I fell farther in when I met sweet little Kane, the boy Poe rescued . As I got to know these characters I became more interested in Kane because you don’t know exactly where he is from and then BAM the author throws you into the horror that Kane has been leaving behind when he meets Poe. Heart broken at all the stuff Kane suffers and hoping that Poe will be able to help him. BAM again! suddenly, there is hope when Poe and Kane get pushed into the real world to take on the adventure of finding the 7 lost Arks. We get to go on a fantastic journey meeting Poe’s scribbler and Poe and Kane getting to know the nuances of real world bodies ( which ,especially from Poe’s problems, are pretty freaking hilarious at times). And also some of the heart breaking truth of the real world.

You get to see these characters that had some traumatic things happen to them or the choices they made might not have been for the best but with a helping hand from Poe they get to see that they are all something rather terrific and out of this world.

There were some moments where my heart was broken and some moments where I actually got funny looks from my husband because I was laughing. Always though there seemed to be some hope. Hope that things will get turned right that Poe will save the day and help everyone and Octava.

It was told from a couple point of views ( Poe’s and The Scribblers) but it was cool to see both sides. To see things happen from a different point of view. To watch how when the met how they viewed each other and their expectations of what the other would be like.

Anyway, What I’m trying to say is this is an absolutely fantastic book to read if you like twist and turns, some mystery, some laughter, characters that will have you feeling and reeling for them, and if you need some steamy romance scenes.. its got a couple of those too. Plus a fantastic ending that has me already at the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment. I loved every minute I was absorbed in this book.

Page turning Fantasy, Thriller, Mysterious adventure. With some romance and horror thrown in.

~Shoot there might be a little from every fictional category in there. Sorry, now that I’m thinking about it. The classics were mentioned, you got the travel that was kind of like space travel for the sci fi, your fantasy, adventure, the mysteries and the thriller, a touch of romance, some great humor, huh…… I might have to re read this and highlight through it and see…~

DARK SHADOWS

Psychological Thriller/Horror

My name’s Ella Raimi.
Until last week, my life was pretty normal for a sixteen-year-old. Until I spent that awful night trapped in the janitor's closet in utter darkness. Until the dreams began — suffocating, panic-filled dreams. My best friend Kyla stays with me, but the dreams still continue. And I wake each morning with cuts & burns on my skin. I don’t recall inflicting them.
And then there is the blood on my hands and my sheets when I wake up.
I’m afraid of myself and what I've done.
And I'm beginning to be more afraid of Kyla. And what she will do

My Review:

4/5 Stars

With any type of mystery in a book I try to figure it out before I get to the end. At first I was sure I had it figured out than something would be thrown in and I would start second guessing myself. The ending really threw a curveball at me. I did not see it coming at all.

Poor Ella seemed to be the going feeling for me in this book and the skeptical feeling I had when it came to Kyla. Kyla the friend who was always trying to protect Ella who had bad things happen to her and wouldn’t do anything about it. Kyla was so angry all the time though and then bad things being to happen.

This book had a grip on me in the beginning. I was upset on Ella’s behalf and as a mom myself my heartbroke for her mother and the feelings that her mother was having. I finished this book in one sitting because I could not put it down. Especially after the murders started happening and Kyla got shadier than she was at the beginning. Then there was the introduction of Zach that still has me wondering.

At some points some things seemed predictable but it didn’t take from my overall interest in the story.

Great suspenseful horrifying thriller with lots of suspense and engrossing story line and fascinating characters.

About the Author:

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognize that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practice given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

Hardcore: Volume Two
(Hardcore #2)
by Staci Hart

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The choice is steep: Stay on the ledge and steal Van's painting or take the leap and sacrifice her sister. It's another decision in a long line that she's had to make in her life, and though it's easy to make, it's impossible to execute.

Jade won't let Cory go until she gets what she wants, but the price for Cory is high. It's never been hard to steal, to lie, but Van changed all the rules. It was the last thing she wanted to do to him. But as much as that choice is agony, there's really only one to make.

My review:

5/5 Stars

I got this for my honest review

Hardcore Volume 2 took off and had me turning pages from the beginning. It starts out with Cory waking up on the floor of the flat and after that she has a lot of big decisions to make. Which are actually easy for her to make because its always protect Jill.. Who happens to be in Jade’s crosshairs unless Cory does this next job.

I picked this book up one night when I had every intention of going to bed early but of course with all the emotional drama that unfolds and the paging turing action I couldn’t put it down. When the job goes down and things got screwed up I was angry at Jade and Jace for putting Cory in that situation. I love that all the other girls come together with Cory and help her try to right the wrong that she had committed even if it was dangerous. And of course I liked that Cory and Jill are getting to know each other better and Jill seems to be very understanding and excepting of Cory and I love this quote from Jill “You have to trust the people who love you, Cory. That’s part of what love is. And if your honesty pushes someone away, then they didn’t love you in the first place.”

I really enjoyed all the characters in this book. Even the other girls which get mentioned here and there are great and have me wondering why they are doing this, and of course there is Erin she’s pretty much Cory’s rock. Always there for her emotionally, physically and just seems to get her.

Can Cory let her walls down and let people in? , will Jade and Jace really let Cory off the hook? Can Cory let Van go and betray him? Will Van just let Cory go?

The emotions and action captures you and keeps the pages turning. Never a dull moment! Of course another cliffhanger ending! If you liked Vol 1 it just keeps getting better! I’m looking forward to the next installment.

Speaking Of The Devil Days of New #1 by Meg Collet

Speaking Of The Devil

Days of New #1

by Meg Collett

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Set in the same world as the bestselling End of Days series comes the darkly comedic stand-alone serial spin-off, Days of New.

Clark St. James, self-professed man-candy with pink hair and duct-taped boots, didn’t ask to be the leader of the Nephilim clans or to have ancient angel magic contained in the unwanted tattoos on his arms. And most importantly, he didn’t ask for the holy angels to get their panties in a twist and ravage the earth during an angel civil war.

Instead, Clark is making lemonade out of life’s lemons. With vodka. And a splash of whiskey just because.

It’s up to the Descendants of Enoch—an order of humans meant to protect the holy angels while on Earth—and Clark’s Nephilim to set this destroyed world back on its axis. The angels in Heaven are busy repairing their city and rebuilding a new form of democracy. In Hell, everyone is adjusting to a new form of leadership after Clark killed Lucifer, prince of the fallen.

Technically, it was an accident. But people keep forgetting that.

Just when things were beginning to get boring, someone starts murdering Descendants in very…unique ways. Ways that incriminate Clark. But there’s always a calling card beside the bodies: a single burnt black feather. And Clark only knows one fallen angel that got crispy fried.

Apparently Lucifer is back. And he’s pissed of

My Review

I was given this for my honest review

5/5 Stars

ITS CLARK!! CLARK is back!! Sarcastic, dark humored, faithful ,pink haired Clark. I love Clark… I’m pretty sure when she announced it was a book about Clark I was already giving it 20 stars…. So I came in very excited to read this.

Wait!! do you see the cover!! I really like the cover.. Completely fitting for Clark.

Clark is now the leader of the Nephilim clans and they are doing there best to rebuild after the war. When someone unexpected turns up and others start dying. Not to mention the dreams ( or premonitions ) of Lucifer he’s having.

I enjoyed what we get from Camille also. She’s blunt and jealous but you can tell she cares for Clark even if he doesn’t seem to exactly reciprocate those feelings as much. I kind of hope there becomes more to their relationship.

This story was an amazing mysterious thrill ride.Meg wastes no time with the action pulling you in and keeping you flipping the pages. I think she’s also really great pulling you in emotionally. I actually feel for these characters.

Its a great continuation of the End of Days series and also would be a great read if you haven’t read the End of Days. But I enjoyed that series a lot too and I think having the background information would help a lot when you read this book. Anyway, I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series this book ended with a pretty big cliffhanger.

And more awesome news when its release on 4/27 it'll be free and the rest of the Days of New series is up for preorder for only .99!  ( also look you have time to read the End of Days series and get to know Clark better!  The kindle edition of The Hunted One  ( End of Days book 1) is free also! ).

Bound by love, bound by honour, and both shackled by duty. Fated by the creator to sit at the crossroads of a war that tears their worlds apart. Can their sinful love truly conquer all? Will they catch the scent that lingers and find the ties that bind even the deadliest of enemies.

Lines will blur and hearts will shatter. In a battle of good versus evil not everything is always black and white, for even in heaven, shades of grey abound.

Garden Spells (Waverley Family #1) by Sarah Addison Allen

Garden Spells
Waverley Family #1
by Sarah Addison Allen

Synopsis from Goodreads:

The women of the Waverley family -- whether they like it or not -- are heirs to an unusual legacy, one that grows in a fenced plot behind their Queen Anne home on Pendland Street in Bascom, North Carolina. There, an apple tree bearing fruit of magical properties looms over a garden filled with herbs and edible flowers that possess the power to affect in curious ways anyone who eats them.

For nearly a decade, 34-year-old Claire Waverley, at peace with her family inheritance, has lived in the house alone, embracing the spirit of the grandmother who raised her, ruing her mother's unfortunate destiny and seemingly unconcerned about the fate of her rebellious sister, Sydney, who freed herself long ago from their small town's constraints. Using her grandmother's mystical culinary traditions, Claire has built a successful catering business -- and a carefully controlled, utterly predictable life -- upon the family's peculiar gift for making life-altering delicacies: lilac jelly to engender humility, for instance, or rose geranium wine to call up fond memories. Garden Spells reveals what happens when Sydney returns to Bascom with her young daughter, turning Claire's routine existence upside down. With Sydney's homecoming, the magic that the quiet caterer has measured into recipes to shape the thoughts and moods of others begins to influence Claire's own emotions in terrifying and delightful ways.

As the sisters reconnect and learn to support one another, each finds romance where she least expects it, while Sydney's child, Bay, discovers both the safe home she has longed for and her own surprising gifts. With the help of their elderly cousin Evanelle, endowed with her own uncanny skills, the Waverley women redeem the past, embrace the present, and take a joyful leap into the future

My Review:

3/5 Stars

This is a really adorable story. One if you enjoy Practical Magic you’ll definitely enjoy this story . It wasn’t anything unfamiliar or dosed heavily in magic. It was as comfy and familiar as a favorite sweatshirt that has those stains on it or that whole in the sleeve. ( I'm hoping I'm not the only one with a sweatshirt like that. I could have said chocolate or cookies)

One has a flair for garden herbs and adding spices to her baked good to make things go the way you want them to or to really screw you up. But is it Claire or the garden that is magical? Claire keeps to herself and likes everything predictable and the same. One day her wayward sister comes back into town with a kid in tow. Sydney didn’t exactly embrace her heritage and she was out of Bascom as soon as she could get out. Now escaping from an abusive husband she finds herself back into the small town were here family peculiarities haven’t gone unnoticed. Its nice to read and see if Sydney and Claire ever mend their relationship and if Sydney ever accepts who she is and her magic.

I LOVED Evanelle. I think it was Claire and Sydneys elderly cousin. She has a gift of having to give specific things to people which always has a purpose for those people. Even if its some random off the wall object that they can’t see what they’d use it for at that moment they seem to need it at some point.

The apple tree itself was an interesting character. It would throw apples to get people attention and it didn’t like certain people. I can’t help thinking that would be cool to have an apple tree like that. Even if it didn’t like me.

In short..Although predictable this book seemed to be what I wanted to read at the moment. It was light quick and sweet. I finished it as soon as I picked it up. Something for those days where I just want something light to read, something that just makes me smile. Nothing deep no action just comfort, some humor, a little drama and light magic

Shannon in the Lion's Den by eden Hudson

Shannon in the Lion's Denby eden Hudson

Synopsis from Goodreads

You got to pay to play...

At just twenty-two years old, Shannon Colter has everything she's ever wanted. She's an international rock star, her guitar playing is better than it's ever been, and she never has to worry about going hungry again.

But behind the scenes, Shannon's world is falling apart. Her bandmates hate her, the music she used to love is driving her insane, the only escape she can find from the noise is sex, and the messiest breakup of her pre-rock-star life, Danny Whitney, just blew into town.

To top it all off, the deal Shannon made with the devil just came due. Now the forces of Hell have been unleashed against her with one objective: Destroy.

Hell wants her, but he wants her more...

Danny Whitney is the quintessential good boy. He reads his Bible and prays. He works hard and gets good grades. He's just five weeks and one senior thesis from graduating seminary at the top of his class.

But there was always something about Shannon that drove Danny a little bit crazy. Something that made him want to sacrifice everything good, just for her. Even now, five years after she wrecked his heart, he would do anything to keep her safe.

Anything.

My Review

5/5 Stars

 All that down there does not do how wonderfully done this book is justice at all. This book( just like the one it is a prequel to) has me hooked. It might not be up everyones ally but I believe MANY people will enjoy this world and the characters that Hudson has created. The story is dark and the characters are flawed and at times almost unlikeable but like all that seems to be dark there is a light side to the story and so many redeeming aspects and depth to the characters that you ( at least I) enjoy them for everything they are.  This is another book that left me with the thought "Wow! I want more of this story and these characters"  at the end.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This book ( in particular) hooks you in and keeps you turning the pages. eden Hudson has me addicted to this world and characters she has created. I can’t get enough of these characters and this story. This is an author I’m very much looking forward to reading more from.
Shannon is a small town girl who has chased and captured her big time Rock n Roll dream. She’s angry overindulging and seems to be paranoid and spiraling out of control. You think you’re not going to like her but the more you read about her the more you like her ( at least I did…wether that makes sense or not) . Anyway, She runs into her ex love Danny who has grown up to become a seminary student, good ol boy who also happened to stumble into doing some demon slaying. You get to see through their memories how they fell in love and how they fell apart. Then we get the hope of maybe they rekindle that romance and Danny saving Shannon from herself and the demons that follow her
I want to shout it out and recommend this to everyone. I can not think of one thing to compare this book to. Its not beautiful and flowery but its wonderful. The story and characters grab you and then the action scenes come in hitting hard and fast. I was not ready for the ending to come but I couldn’t stop or slow down my reading.
These are they type of characters and the type of story that will stay with you after you read it. One when someone asks me to recommend a book this is the second book I recommend. The first is How To Kill Yourself In A Small Town. I usually try to take what other people like into consideration before I recommend a book I’ve read but this is one I think many people will enjoy reading, especially those who want a different take on the whole angels, demons and other worldly beings.
Dark, gritty amazingness with sparks of hope and love. I’d recommend this to anyone who likes a good dark,action, fantasy, thriller that will keep you turning pages. I look forward to reading more books by this author ( hopefully many more books).
Although this is a prequel to How to Kill Yourself in a Small Town its just as good as a stand-alone book but I HIGHLY recommend both books.
Knight of Wands ( Devices of War #2) by S.M Blooding
Knight Of Wands
Devices of War #2
by S.M. Blooding
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Nix, Queen of Wands, has exactly what she wants—Synn El’Asim, the greatest Mark the world has ever seen. Even though she bound his soul to hers, he is not easily controlled. If she wants him, she must do the one thing that pains her most. Let him go, and give him what he desires. Peace.
Armed with a treaty bearing Nix’s seal, Synn sets off to bridge the gap between the world’s two reigning tyrants—the Hands of Tarot and the Great Families. He struggles to trust Nix as he fights for control of his soul. He’s going to need every ounce of restraint when dealing with his mother, leader of the Great Families. She will not give up her power without a fight. Nix will honor her treaty only if Synn agrees to become her knight. His mother refuses to sign the peace agreement if he falls into the queen’s control.
Frustrated, Synn does the one thing neither woman saw coming. He invites all the tribes, currently voiceless in the war between these two ruling tyrants, to partake in the treaty negotiations. All they have to do is prove their worth in his Peace Games. As Synn’s influence and subsequent power grows, a new fight begins.
Who will control Synn’s League of Cities? Can he protect more people as a leader of the Great Families, or as the Knight of Wands?
My review
5/5 Stars
I was given this book for my honest review….
In the first book we get a look into this wonderful world that S.M Blooding has created. We get to see the history of the Great Families and The Hands also learn about the “marks” that some of the people have. In this book we get to see how Synn and the others are working to shape their future.
This book had a more political aspect to it than the last. That aspect added more to it. S.M Blooding does a wonderful job at creating a beautiful world. She is very good at describing it so you can easily imagine how everything would look. The “games” introduced us to some less populated tribes and some interesting character along with adding some great action scenes and friendly/ not so friendly competition between the different families and the hands.
Synn has grown so strong but is someone still pulling his strings in order to control his powerful mark? He’s still fighting his bond with Nix and he has his mother who is a leader in a Powerful family plus now there is the Queen of Swords and the Priestess. I like the priestess character and am excited to read more about her.I love that Synn is determined to make the world fair and just without seeking revenge and that he wants to put the best people in power to help lead the families.
I love reading about the bonds Synn has with his family and I enjoyed trying to figure out where he was going to be in all this? Was he going to accept Nix’s offer to be her Knight? Was he going to take over his fathers ship? or become leader of the League of Cities?
This book has great action, humor scenes and some twists that you don’t see coming. The ending I was shocked! My husband said just by looking at my face you and the sharp intake of breath something major happened.
This series is a great Steampunk, action filled book. I’m looking forward to the next one! I’d recommend it to anyone who likes shows like The Avatar and anyone who likes Steampunk reads. The Devices of War is a great series!
