Sneak Peek : Screwed by Kendall Ryan

We are very excited for this brand new standalone from Kendall Ryan.
Releasing on September 15
we get a peek at a sexy romantic comedy from the NYT Bestselling author.

I have one rule: Don’t shit where you eat.

Several of the women in the condo complex I own would love some one-on-one playtime, and why wouldn’t they? I’m young, fit, attractive, and loaded. Not to mention I’m packing a sizable bulge below the belt. It’s a combination that drops panties on a regular basis.
Yay, me, right?

But my cock, troublemaker that he is, has been confined to my trousers by my business partner. A concession I agreed to, and one that’s never been hard to enforce until Emery moves in across the hall. She’s smart, young, determined, and sexy as hell. I want a taste. I won’t stop until I’m buried deep inside the succulent new-in-town brunette.

After being warned about my past, she does her best to steer clear, but I’m about to show her that underneath it all, I’m a guy with a heart of gold and a cock of steel.

My name is Hayden Oliver, and this is my story.

SCREWED is standalone romantic comedy by New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Kendall Ryan.

Chapter One

Hayden

Goddamn. This is going to be harder than I thought.
My eyes swing over to admire the most perfect pear-shaped ass I’ve ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on while my business partner Hudson continues lecturing me. I think it’s something important, but there’s nothing more urgent than my body’s reaction to this shapely brunette. Jesus. Those tits are definitely real.
“I mean it. Your cock is cut off this time,” Hudson says roughly, his tone biting.
Tearing my gaze away from the succulent new brunette moving into unit 4B, I face him. “Not literally cut off. I’m sort of attached to him. You realize that, right?”
“Well it’s on lock down then. No more of this bullshit. I had three calls this week alone from hysterical women – our tenants – who you, how do I put this delicately? You fucked and then left before their pussies were even dry.”
I smirk at him, but I can’t deny the accusation. We’re like the real life Melrose Place. Sexy young twenty-somethings all living in close proximity. There’s bound to be a little drama now and again. Together, Hudson and I own thirty buildings in the greater Los Angeles area. And some of our buildings have very fuckable tenants. Up until this point, I’d considered that a nice bonus, and a perk of the job. Hudson has apparently viewed it differently.
“Who’s that?” I ask, tipping my head toward the bombshell who’s responsible for all the blood rushing to my groin. Fuck. I should have a word with her about that, that’s not cool.
Hudson’s eyes swing to the left to see what, or rather, who has captured my attention. And who’s given me this semi-chub, which I hope he hasn’t noticed. We’re close, but we’re not that close.
“No, no, no. Don’t get any ideas. You’re not tagging that.”
She’s not close enough to overhear us, but I shoot him a scowl anyway. “Show some class, man. Tagging is such a juvenile word. I’d take my time, get her hot and ready first, until she was begging for me to fill her tight, little cunt.”
“I’m fucking serious. You’re not to even think about her tight cunt.”
“So you acknowledge she’s got a tight cunt?” I smile, proud of myself.
He wipes sweat from his brow, looking worried. “Hayden, I’m serious this time.” His voice has taken on a somber tone, and for once, I try to be serious and focus.
Watching the way the vein throbs in his neck, my smile fades. We’re standing outside of one of our nicest buildings just outside of downtown, and the mid-afternoon sun is beating down on us. Suddenly I want to get away from him, and away from this entire conversation and into the cool air conditioning inside. Shit has gotten a little too real for me.
“You know me,” I grin at him, trying to lighten the mood. “I just wanted to have some casual fun.” And if that meant sleeping my way through the LA singles scene, so be it. I’m not looking for something deeper. I have a luxury condo in the heart of the Hollywood Hills, drive a new model BMW and possess a nine-inch cock. Translation: Life is good. Or it was, until Hudson decided to get a bug up his ass and lay down the law today.
“Did you hear a word I just said? One of your latest conquests threatened to report our company to the Better Business Bureau for unethical business practices. This isn’t just about you. This affects me too. And I’ll be damned if I watch everything we’ve built go down in flames because you can’t keep your dick in your pants.”
“Point taken.” Hudson is pretty much the best friend, and best business partner you could ask for. He’s smart as hell, dedicated, works like a dog day and night. And not to mention when we began our real estate investment company five years ago, he single-handedly fronted all the start-up capital from his own savings and trust fund. It took me years to pay him back as the profits rolled in, and he never once made me feel lesser, or like I was in debt to him. Not to mention, he’s funny, well-off, and good looking. He’s an excellent wing-man. Plus he knows the best taco joints.
Unable to help myself, my eyes drift over to her again. 4B fills out a pair of yoga pants in ways that I doubt are even legal in most countries. I needed to know what was underneath those curve-hugging black athletic pants. Simple cotton panties, or a naughty g-string? Either way, I wanted to bury my fingers inside the waistband of those pants, peel them down her hips and find out. Perhaps it was because Hudson just made her forbidden fruit, but I wanted a taste. My damn mouth was practically watering.
She looked smart, and put together, despite her casual attire, including a tank top and tennis shoes. With a clipboard in one hand, and her trusty number two pencil in the other, she ticked items off of her list, and instructed the movers who were unloading and carrying boxes up to her new place – which just so happened to be directly underneath mine.
“You’re not going to last three minutes let alone three days.” Hudson grimaces, glancing over again at our newest resident.
“What do you know about her?”
He rolls his eyes, but humors me. “Emery Elaine Winters. She’s an attorney. Excellent references. Even better credit score, and she signed a one year lease. And she’s to remain in pristine condition, or so help me God …”
When I glance up at her again, I see Roxy, another of our residents has joined Emery on the sidewalk, and they appear to be making small talk. Shaking hands, exchanging words, and smiling at each other. There’s something I strongly dislike about these two women talking. Roxy is an exotic dancer, and she I have a bit of a rocky past. Which is a huge fucking understatement, but not something I care to dwell on now. Hudson mentions something about fourth quarter taxes, and I tune him out, sure I just heard my name on Roxy’s over-glossed lips.
“Excuse me, I’ve got business to attend to.” I step around him, heading straight toward my new prize. Roxy spots me, and takes off for the parking area.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Hudson calls after me.
“Just being neighborly. Someone’s got to properly welcome Miss Winters.”
“Dammit, Hayden,” I hear him shout.
“I’ve got this, buddy,” I shout back over my shoulder.
I can control myself around her. I have to, according to Hudson. I don’t like being told what to do, especially where my cock was concerned, and hell, it’ll probably only make me want her more, but as I close the distance between Emery and me, I make a plan.
Friends.
I would become friends with the so-hot-I-wanted-to-bend-her-over-and-fuck-her-in-broad-daylight new girl.
This was either the best plan I’d ever had, or would end with me sporting a black eye, courtesy of my best friend.
It’s go time.

Buzzfeed booklover relatable pictures and my summer vacation..

Anyone see this 29 Pictures only Book Lovers Will Understand on Buzzfeed.

I take my kids on about a two month vacation to visit our family back in my home state. I try to read and keep up with writing and posting my reviews but as we tend to be go go going for those months. I tend to get behind.  I even have had to result in writing reviews on post it notes as I finish a book so I can type it up later.

Anyway,  I realized looking at those pictures that I'm guilty of a few of these especially at this time.

number #21. Even though I packed my kindle I still had paperbacks that I wanted to read and I had to sacrifice two shirts and some underwear to make room for my books ( I figured every place we'd be staying has a washer and dryer so I didn't need so much clothes) I still had to sit on my suitcase to close it.   Then I went to help my kids pack and it was a great feeling to see they were struggling with the same thing.

As for #23 for some reason this happens to me a lot on vacation too. I don't know if for some reason Michigan has different covers or if I just don't see the same covers where I live but I notice pretty covers when I'm on vacation and tend to buy them even though I already have that book.    While at my mothers house I stopped in Thrift Shop Association and found these awesome old covers of The Chronicles of Narnia box set and Lord of the Rings. Came to be one of the ladies had a daughter who was going through her stuff and decided she didn't want them. So I now own two boxsets of each because I couldn't pass up on the covers.

#25 Oh man my book store ADD kicks in to high when on vacation. I think I end up spending more on books because every time I pass a new used bookstore or a small town bookstore I have to stop. So far I've only hit up  Pieces & Pages in Livonia.  She's only been open for about a year but I know where I'm going to be stopping yearly for mine and my kids comics and to browse the used books.  Cozy atmosphere, friendly owner and I think they had a nice selection of used books along with comics, graphic novels.

I can relate to the other pictures as well but these are strictly my vacation relatable ones.   I'd also like to add that I own e-versions and hardcopies of many books because sometimes I just want the feel of a good book and sometimes I like just having the e-version to sneak a read on my phone or in case of those times where I can only back my kindle.

Well I hope all are having a wonderful summer and reading some great summer reads!

Sex, Lies and Online Dating by Rachel Gibson

Sex, Lies and Online Dating
by Rachel Gibson

Synopsis from Goodreads:

SEX...

What is it about men anyway? Bad cars, bad jobs, even bad teeth -- nothing convinces them that they can't snare a Size Two Babe with a D-cup chest. And after way too many internet dates with men named "luvstick" and "bigdaddy182," Lucy Rothschild should know.

LIES...

But sitting across from her now is "hardluvnman," and he seems different -- sensitive, honest, and hot! He says he's a plumber, while Lucy claims she's a nurse! She's really a mystery writer, dating online while researching her next book. Hey, everyone lies a little, don't they?

AND ONLINE DATING...

But Quinn's really an undercover cop hunting down a serial killer, and he sees Lucy as his top suspect. And while he could really go for this smart, sexy woman with the killer bod -- if that's the only thing "killer" about her -- he knows he needs to wine and dine her and discover the truth. Hey, he realizes the dating scene can be deadly -- but this is ridiculous!

My Review:
3/5 Stars

I found this book to be a fun and quick read.

Lucy was a wonderful character who was a writer using internet dating to research for an upcoming mystery novel she’s writing. And top suspect in a case of serial killer who is using the online dating world to find the victims.

Quinn is an undercover cop using online dating as a means to find a killer who is meeting men from online dating sites and ending there lives.

When Lucy meets Quinn he was supposed to just be research but she ends up actually wanting to date him again. Quinn is persistent but he actually sees Lucy as a suspect ( sort of) and continues trying to find evidence.

This was a cute book. I found the romance fun. I liked that Lucy was a mystery writer and she had friends who wrote in different genres and that they had some funny inputs inputs about her dating life. I thought the mystery was a fun one to try and solve.

Cute read, some steamy scenes, some humor and some mystery. It did get a little boring here and there but I pushed through the scenes and found the story to be an entertaining and fun read. I look forward to reading more in this series.

From Skedaddle to Selfie: Words of the Generations: by Allen Metcalfe

From Skedaddle to Selfie: Words of the Generations:
by Allen Metcalfe

Synopsis from Goodreads:

From baby boomers with 'groovy' and 'yuppie,' to Generation X with 'whatever' and 'like,' each generation inevitably comes to use certain words that are particular to its unique time in history. Those words not only tell us a great deal about the people in those generations, but highlight their differences with other generations.

In this entertaining compilation, Allan Metcalf, author of OK: The Improbable Story of America's Greatest Word, shows that each generation--those born within the same roughly 20-year time period--can be identified and characterized by its key words. Metcalf tells the story of the history and usage of these words, starting with the American Revolution and ending with the post-Millennial Homeland generation. With special attention to the differences in vocabulary among today's generations--the sometimes awkward Millennials, the grunge music of Generation X, hippies among the Boomers, and bobbysoxers among the Silents--From Skeddadle to Selfie compiles dozens of words we thought we knew, and tells the unheard stories of each and how they accompanied its generation through its time

My review
5/5 Stars

*ARC from NetGalley*

The author takes us through generations and introduces us to words that made up those generations.

I love how we are taken through different generations and introduced to words that have characterize and described those generations. I find it fun to know the history of words and how they and their definition have came to be.

I thought the author did a wonderful job and I liked at the end how he gave us a peek into the future generation might end up doing.

I found this book to be a fun, interesting and informative read. I think those who enjoy words and the history behind them would really enjoy this book.

The Closer You Come ( The Original Heartbreaks #1) by Gena Showalter

The Closer You Come ( The Original Heartbreakers #1)

by Gena Showalter

Synopsis From Goodreads:

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter introduces the Original Heartbreakers, where three not-quite-reformed bad boys are about to meet the women who will bring them to their knees.

Just released from prison, Jase Hollister has a dark and twisted past. And now, he has only one goal: stay out of trouble. Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, sounds like the perfect place for him and his two brothers-by-circumstance to settle down and live a nice, simple life. But model citizen isn’t exactly this rugged bachelor’s default setting—especially when it comes to a certain hot-blooded Southern beauty…

Brook Lynn Dillon has always been responsible. Not that it’s done her much good. The down-on-her-luck waitress is broke, single and fun-deprived. Until Jase comes along. He is dangerous, stunningly protective, breathtakingly sexy and as tempting as sin, and the passion sizzling between them is undeniable. But can it melt her resistance? After all, the right kind of trouble might be just what they both need

My Review:
4/5

Okay, Gena Showalter is another favorite author of mine. If I don’t love her characters and books I at least like them.

That being said.

Besides the awkwardness of how Brook-Lynn met Jase. I really enjoyed this story.

Jase had a difficult past. One that made him think he was undeserving of a loving relationship. He doesn’t talk about his past with anyone ( except what his friends know). Tattooed and off putting Jase comes off as cold and distant, but he warms up to Brook Lynn and through out the book he does helpful things for people in town.

Brook Lynn is a sassy smart mouthed woman trying to keep her older sister some what under control. She’s hardworking and responsible. I adore Brook Lynn for those qualities and the fact she displays extreme loyalty to her sister even if they fight often. She also comes from a troubled past that leaves her with some issues of her own.

There was a little bit of a mystery character in it that caused some drama towards the end. West has his own issues which come to a point I think half way through the book I find him to be rather fascinating character himself along with Beck. Then the twist at the end when another character was introduced with a surprise in tow.

Like I said I found this story enjoyable and entertaining. I love the strong protective male characters who are also funny. I loved the sassy females who were funny and took no crap from others. I could see how the way Brook Lynn meets Jase could be off putting for some people. I mean even I cringe at the thought. But, I keep telling myself sometimes you can’t help how you feel and in small towns awkward things can happen.

Wonderful story, lots of humor, a little mystery, some heart wrenching parts, and of course your steamy and romantic parts. I found the characters to be wonderful. I’m looking forward to reading about the other guys ( West and Beck).

He didn't tell Braith of the Darkness to have the most delicious tail he’s ever seen! Yet before Addolgar can get his very strong claws on that tail, heads are going to roll. Just hopefully not theirs..

My Review:
5/5 Stars

It was a wonderful short story about how Addolgar and Braith met.

I always find myself cracking up when I read the stories this author writes. I don’t mean little scoffs to myself but actually laughing and having to hurry up and cover it to make sure I don’t wake my husband up or get weird looks.

I liked Braith she was kick a** and she kicked a lot of a**. Her story was kind of heartbreaking but I loved the ending and her HEA.

Addolgar, what to say about him. He was hilarious. I loved how cheerful and positive he is and the fact he is a big baby when he is sick.

A wonderful short action packed story with lots of laughs, love and it was just great to see the background story to these two characters.

I adore this series.

My Review:

5/5 Stars

I found this anthology wonderfully fun to read. I like all the different stories and takes on how time could be used to change other parts of time either the future or the past.

Each story had different ways to time travel from machines to just being able to change it with the written word.

I think my favorite would be the one about the author. It was a really sweet short story.

There is something for everyone in this anthology. Action, Romance and of course time travel.

Caressed by Ice Psy-Changeling #3 by Nalini Singh

Caressed by Ice
Psy-Changeling #3
by Nalini Singh

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Nalini Singh explores new heights of sensuality, returning to the world of the Psy - where two people who know evil intimately must unlock the good within their icy hearts...

As an Arrow, an elite soldier in the Psy Council ranks, Judd Lauren was forced to do terrible things in the name of his people. Now he is a defector, and his dark abilities have made him the most deadly of assassins - cold, pitiless, unfeeling. Until he meets Brenna...

Brenna Shane Kincaid was an innocent before she was abducted - and had her mind violated - by a serial killer. Her sense of evil runs so deep, she fears she could become a killer herself. Then the first dead body is found, victim of a familiar madness. Judd is her only hope, yet her sensual changeling side rebels against the inhuman chill of his personality, even as desire explodes between them. Shocking and raw, their passion is a danger that threatens not only their hearts, but their very lives...

My review:
4/5 Stars

So far this is my favorite in the series. I think it maybe because I think assassins are awesome to read about and I like female characters who overcome and adapt and still kick butt after something traumatic happens to them.

Judd of course is the kick a** Psy assassin that seems to have no emotion what so ever. Just like he is supposed to be. Unless it comes to Brenna in which he pretty much tortures himself in order for her to get the contact that she needs to help her through everything she is going through.

I found Brenna to be wonderful. She understood why Judd was the way he was but accepted him and his family. Even when she found out his secret and she was uncomfortable with it and how it relates to the guy that tortured her but she was able to look past it and still want Judd.

As for the story. I really liked this one. Maybe because it was the guy that was the Psy this time and the female that was the changeling. Or maybe because this story opened up more about the Psy world and how these Arrows become who they are and all the politics in the Psy world along with some of the past. I think this one also described more of the changeling world. Kind of like the “pecking” order I guess I’d say. Like how the wolf shifters and panther shifters look out for the shifters who are lower on the food chain like the deer shifters.

As always wonderful action scenes. Great mystery for me to try and solve. And some steamy romance scenes. I love Judds and Brenna’s story. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series and I hope they are just as good or better than this one.

Shifters, Psy, Steamy scenes, Action scenes, Romance and humor.

The Ugly Duchess Fairy Tales #4 by Eloisa James

The Ugly Duchess
Fairy Tales #4
by Eloisa James

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Theodora Saxby is the last woman anyone expects the gorgeous James Ryburn, heir to the Duchy of Ashbrook, to marry. But after a romantic proposal before the prince himself, even practical Theo finds herself convinced of her soon-to-be duke's passion.

Still, the tabloids give the marriage six months.

Theo would have given it a lifetime... until she discovers that James desired not her heart, and certainly not her countenance, but her dowry. Society was shocked by their wedding; it's scandalized by their separation.

Now James faces the battle of his lifetime, convincing Theo that he loved the duckling who blossomed into the swan.

And Theo will quickly find that for a man with the soul of a pirate, All's Fair in Love — or War.

My Review
3/5 Stars

I don’t read many historical romance books ( this actually might be the only historical romance author I read) , but I enjoy what this author writes and she easily became one that I love to read.

At the beginning I found this story to be fun. I liked the interaction between Daisy/Theo and James. I loved Theo and I adored how James always stood up for her. There was a lot of witty banter and just great interaction between the characters.

When James married Daisy for all the wrong reasons I was well disgusted and heartbroken for her. But, he did love her so I thought well maybe that all in good. Then I realized there was a lot of story left and I knew something huge was going to happen.

Of course Theo found out the one reason James married her ( for her money) and kicked his butt out. The dude left for like 7 years! Theo took care of everything ( The land and building their money back up) and had to put up with the constant scrutiny of why James left ( He found her too ugly was the consensus). She was a slightly OCD but everything ran smoothly. Then when she’s thinking of moving on and that James might possibly never come back OF COURSE he comes back at the wore possible time. So now Theo is wanting to get a divorce ( He’s been gone forever and he was unfaithful during those times so of course she’d want the divorce.) But while James was away he decided he loved Theo and wanted her back. Dude was trying everything to get her back and of course Theo falls for it and they get they HEA.

So, I liked the story it was funny at parts and heartbreaking and as always this authors is great at getting my emotions involved. But, man, I did not want Theo to give in. I do enjoy second chance romances sometimes and I’m glad they got there HEA but seriously 7 years and not a word then waltz’s back in all bad a** looking and wanting her to stay with him. Maybe it should have been a little longer I think she should have kicked his butt out again and he’d have to woo her when they were not “stuck” in the same house.

Great Story, Wonderful characters, Great dialogue. It had some funny parts and heartbreaking parts.

Take Me for Granted( Take Me # 1 )by K.A Linde

Take Me for Granted
Take Me # 1
K.A Linde

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Grant

Manwhore. Adrenaline junkie. Lead singer of ContraBand. What you see is what you get. I make no apologies for my actions, and by now no one expects any from me. I live my life the way I want and as long as it pushes the demons back, then I'm solid. I've never needed a chick for more than a good lay. Why would I need just one when I can have a different one every night?

Until she walks into my world.

Aribel

Mouthy. Perfectionist. Princeton student. Chemistry major. Yes, that pretty much describes me. Oh, and virgin. But I'm only nineteen, and have more important things to concern myself with. What really matters is finishing my degree and getting a good job. I’ve worked hard for what I want, and do what’s expected of me. I don’t need anyone to get in my way.

Until he opens up my world.

But if I give you my world, whatever you do…don’t TAKE ME for grante

My Review:
2/5 Stars

I’m not sure how I feel about this book. I kind of liked Aribel because she was a smart, good girl who said whatever was on her mind but at times she came off as kind of judgmental and b*tchy.

Grant is a lead singer of a band and can get any girl he wants by just smiling. He usually goes home with a different girl every night. Then he meet Aribel and she isn’t falling for his sh*t.

So, I liked a lot of the humor and how Aribel would deflect Grants advances and not give in to his charm. I also enjoyed watching her fall for him and how their relationship develops. What I didn’t like… it dragged at some parts. There was an issue at the beginning of the story that I felt could have been written better and not as if it wasn’t a big deal and some of the things Aribel and Grant fought over was well in my opinion something that could have been handled without all the huffing and puffing. Then again they are college aged . She is only 19 in this story so that might be where some of what I felt was immaturity came from.
